PostHeaderIcon Orcullo nips Immonen to rule Predator 10-Ball tilt

In the battle between the past and present world No.1 players, Dennis Orcullo of the Philippines showed double world champion Mika Immonen of Finland why he’s the best in the business today.

Orcullo outsmarted Immonen in the safety exchanges en route to pulling off a 10-8 triumph and capturing the Predator International 10-Ball Championship crown at the Robinson’s Galleria in Ortigas Sunday night.

A former champion of this event, the reigning World 8-Ball champion kept his composure when the game mattered most. The Filipino was trailing, 7-8, but managed to tie the count after ruling the 16th rack.

Going for broke in the 17th rack, Orcullo got a big break when Immonen scratched the cue ball while aiming for the black ball No. 8.

After retaking the lead, 8-7, the man known as “The Robocop” completed his surge with a run out in next rack to finally clinch the match and the $10,000 prize.

It was a fitting payback for Orcullo, who lost to German Ralf Souquet in the finals of the recent World Pool Masters.

Orcullo’s winning form was at full display as early as the semifinals when he clobbered Wu Jia Qing of Chinese Taipei (formerly known as Wu Chia Ching of China) 10-5, in the semis.
