PostHeaderIcon Larry Merchant vs. Floyd Mayweather: Twitter Blows Up After Controversial Ending

The fight of the night on Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas was not Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Victor Ortiz.

It was  Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Larry Merchant.

After Mayweather appeared to sucker punch Ortiz out of a break in the fourth round, knocking him out in the process, Merchant didn't hesitate to suggest the undefeated boxing star played unfairly.

The suggestion sent Mayweather off on a rant, saying Merchant hadn't ever given him a "fair shake" and that he should be fired from HBO.

Merchant, however, was undeterred and stood his ground while Mayweather tried to back him up. Said Merchant, "I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass."

After the hilarious exchange, here are some of the top tweets after the fight of the year.

Of course, we first start off with Eric Stangel, the head writer/executive producer of David Letterman:
And Larry Merchant will be trending on Twitter in 3...2...1...
Larry Merchant - Eye Of The Tiger
Next we have Darren Rovell, the Emmy Award-winning sports business reporter for CNBC:
For the record, Larry Merchant is 80. So if he were 50 years younger, he'd be 4 years younger than Floyd.
And Bill Simmons:
We hit big with our "Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Larry Merchant will nearly come to blows" bet! I knew it would happen!
Last but not least, Dane Cook everybody!
Just used my game shark with Fight Night for Xbox. Unlocked Larry Merchant 50 years ago. He's sporting a handlebar stash.
Ah, the wide world of Twitter...
