PostHeaderIcon Django, Bata lose to Germans

Germany's Ralf Souquet and Thorsten Hohmann demolished pool legends Efren "Bata" Reyes and Francisco "Django" Bustamante, 9-1, to clinch the first semis berth in the World Cup of Pool Saturday at The Block of SM North EDSA.

Souquet and Hohmann rolled to a 4-0 start as Reyes and Bustamante could not do anything right this time following their impressive win over India’s Raj Hundal and Guramarpreet Kang Thursday night.

The Germans, on the other hand, were simply sharp and brilliant as they produced some tricks of their own that saw Reyes and Bustamante shake their heads in disappointment.

Germany’s win was a fitting follow-up to its 8-3 win over Malaysians Patrick Ooi and Ibrahim Bin Amir, 8-3, the other day.

With the win, the German will face either South Korean team or a Sweden in the semis.

Meantime, Dennis Orcollo and Ronnie Alcano rallied from a two-rack deficit to defeat Canada's Jason Klatt and John Morra, 8-6, and reach the quarterfinals late Friday.

Orcollo, the world's top pool player, and Alcano overcame a 6-4 deficit with the former hitting a combination between the five and the nine to tie the count at 6-all.

They turned on the heat in the 13th and 14th racks to secure the right to face Taiwanese Ko Pin-yi and Ko Ping-chun in the quarters.

The Taiwanese duo rallied from a 7-5 deficit to stun the Italian team of Bruno Muratore and Fabio Petroni, 8-7.
