PostHeaderIcon Pacquiao, Donaire in 2016 Olympics?

The Philippines' quest for an Olympic gold medal may soon be fulfilled. The International Boxing Association or AIBA wants to change Olympic eligibility rules and allow professional fighters to compete at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

If this happens, Filipino boxing champions like pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire could suit up for the national team and compete in the Olympics.

Two Filipino pugs, Anthony Villanueva and Mansueto Velasco, gave the country silver medals in the 1964 and 1996 Olympics, respectively.

AIBA has been relaxing its rules on amateur boxers. Last year, it created the 12-city World Series boxing competition, which paid amateur fighters.
