The Netherlands claimed the top spot in the FIFA world football rankings, replacing reigning world champion Spain.

According to FIFA.com, the Dutch profited from Spain’s defeat to Italy to become the 7th country to occupy the top spot in the world rankings.

Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy and Spain were the only other countries that became world’s Top 1.

Spain lost 25 points in its defeat to Italy in a friendly game. The Spainiards now have a total of 1563 points.

The Netherlands, on the other hand, has 1596 points.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Azkals remained in 162nd place with 105 points.

The Azkals are due to compete in the 2011 Long Teng Cup late September.
